Spruce Tree

rule
picture of giant Spruce Tree

This in between time, between daylight and dark is a time when all creatures can stand with one foot in one world and the other foot in another. It is a time for releasing the past and moving into the future. A time for moving from one sort of activity into another. And a time of seeing the differences between the two worlds while moving through them by the grace of the similarities.

Notice those of us who move in different ways at twilight: the muskrat tending to its things before settling in for the night, the fireflies awakening to begin a night of feeding and mating and the bats, beginning their night's hunt.

We are Spruce. Our transition is not as noticeable as it is in the animal kingdom but it is a time of withdrawing energies from their daily tasks in the sunlight and beginning a time of rest. Our awareness straddles both worlds. Let your awareness straddle both, moving in grace from one way of being into the next, noticing the differences, but riding upon the similarities. We are Spruce. Be like us.

Time has little meaning for us. We have a sense of the seasons, a sense of day and night but we do not count them. We feel a time of day or season in our deepest senses and it affects how we express ourselves at that particular time.

When we listen to our inner seasons, listen to our inner clocks, we trust that our inner self knows what actions are appropriate at a specific time and which actions are inappropriate. We would not begin our sap running at the beginning of the winter season. Nor would we slow ourselves into a winter sleep when it is the time for expansion.

rule

In working within the boundaries of your existence, you have provided yourself a framework in which you can live. This framework, while useful and interesting, is limited by the very boundaries you set up. Live within the framework that you have set for yourself, while at the same time recognizing that it is a construction of your mind and you open to possibility, to grace. With this realization, the limitations of the world vanish. Even as you live them, you live them with the grace, understanding and magic that are as much a part of you as the boundaries you have constructed. Free yourself to revel in the ordinary, for it is within the ordinary you experience the extraordinary. Be mindful, then, of your boundaries. Come to know how fragile your limitations are and you can live the relative and the absolute as you move through your daily life.

rule

We are Spruce. Our energy is sheltering, nourishing. As we stand tall, smaller saplings of Cedar and Maple and Poplar begin their growth at our base. They have chosen this spot well, for they can use our height and shelter to nurture their beginnings. And as their energies come more fully into physical, they can use ours to enhance theirs.

You can do the same with greater, higher, taller energies. As you begin a new process in your growth, you can stand in the shade of higher understanding or higher perspective, drawing upon the energy of that which shelters you, as your own energies coalesce with the new growth, new shape and new form that you have chosen.

Stand under the strength of Oak or Cedar or amidst the bubbling happiness of Buttercup or Sunflower. Allow yourself to be nourished by the song of a Pond or Spring, by the warmth of the Sun or the glow of Starlight, as you develop, grow and coalesce your energies. Allow the song of Birds to nourish you, the gentle all-encompassing love of your Angels and Guides to protect you and of your Soul to direct your choices.

We are Spruce. Be like the Cedar sapling at our feet and grow tall.
